The famous lion lured out of Nation Park to be killed

Posted on July 31, 2015 at 10:53 am

South Africa is morning the loss of one of its most famous lions, Cecil a 13 year old male lion. The lion resided in one of Zimbabwe’s national parks and was lured out by a group wishing to kill him for fun.

The cruel act was carried out by a dentist from America who is reported to have paid over £35,000 to shoot and kill the lion. As there were no lions around, the team lured Celic out of the national park (where shooting of lions is not permitted) to the outskirts where he could take his shot.

Africa has come under scrutiny before about allowing the shooting of such animals like lions, but the rules are clear that you are not allowed to kill and animal that is part of a national park. The team that shot the lion then removed his collar before posing for a picture with him.

Serious poaching issues in South Africa

Posted on October 30, 2014 at 9:37 pm

Poaching has been an issue for many years now. All across the world, countries are putting restrictions in to place to try and stop illegal poaching from happening. Poaching has been responsible for many animals becoming endangered and even when there are very few animals of a species left in the wild, this still does not seem to deter people from hunting them.

South Africa in particular has a massive poaching problem. It should come as no surprise that Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve has been added to the Unesco’s danger list because two-thirds of its elephants have been poached in the last five years. Between 2009 and 2013 over 25,000 elephants were killed in Tanzania’s Selous ecosystem, which is sixty six per cent of the reserve’s population.

According to Will Travers of the Born Free Foundation “A single elephant can produce 10kg of ivory with a market value of around $30,000,” he says. It’s no wonder poachers now refer to elephants as walking banks.

Indian Safari

Posted on July 26, 2014 at 12:54 pm

India is a very different part of the world from Africa, so don’t visit expecting the same experience as you would get there. The wildlife itself is very different, but make sure you keep an eye out for spotted dear, sloth bears, the rare Indian rhino, or even the Asiatic Lions, the Indian tiger and the Asian Leopard, along with thousands of species of birds.
Visiting the National Parks can be a wonderful experience, but they can become a little busy and the wildlife is sometimes more sparse… However, this can make things rather more exciting on your safari when you track tigers by elephant-back! Travelling through the National Parks, the jungles in search of tigers is a magical experience, you may find yourself at a secluded waterfall – be sure to take a camera to help you keep these memories!
In most areas offering elephant-back safaris the service remains exceptionally high, but beware, outside of the larger towns, things can be a lot more basic, so be prepared for the unexpected. Be careful to secure your valuables and make sure that you only drink bottled water. We also suggest that you’re careful when it comes to eating ‘street food’.
