How to survive the great outdoors

If you decide to go on a trip with a bit of a difference, then you may opt for a Bear Grylls type adventure. If you really want to get close to nature and learn how to survive in the wilderness, then there are a number of holiday packages which offer the opportunity to learn survival skills that you can use to help find food, water and shelter.

Often these types of holidays are carried out in the jungle, desert or waste lands. Shelter is an important part of survival and you need to be able to find a place to stay dry and get your head down to get some rest. If you do not sleep then you will not have enough energy to carry on and will quickly get exhausted.

You cannot survive long without water, and although you may be surrounded by lakes or streams, you need to make sure that the water you are drinking is clean. On the course you can expect to learn how to purify water than you find so it is safe for drinking. There ar a number of berries, plants and insects that can be eater in the wild. It is vital to know which ones are safe and which are not. You will learn how to distinguish between them and discover which ones are a good source of energy.
